Deck Garden |

I really wanted to plant a herb and veggie garden this year - but with Spring/Summer being my busiest work months I didn't want anything too hard to handle.

So I used an old planter box that came with our house, painted it, and planted herbs in it. I also used some pots that I found in the garage to plant tomatoes, green onions and cherry tomatoes.

We will probably attached a dowel from one side to the other at the top of the planter to hang additional pots from.

Here is what it looks like:

Even if we harvest just once from all these plants the garden will more than pay for itself! And HOPEFULLY everything survives and yields a lot!

I can't wait to add home grown veggies and herbs to salads etc. this summer!

Artist Feature | Jenn Grant

I came across Jenn Grant's Cd 'Honeymoon Punch' at the library yesterday.

Her album cover was so beautiful that I picked it up and knew right away that I was sure to like it.

And sure enough I got home and popped it in and the music was amazing!

Below is a music video for her song entitled 'Getcha Good' as well as a video of her and her band perfomring one of my favourite songs, "Oh My Heart" on CBC's 'Q'.

Mother's Day |

My friend over at the Cosy Biscuit Blog put together a few quotes in a post for mother's day. I loved the quotes and found a few of my own as well to add to the Mother's day cards I was making.

I found quotes that totally fit with our moms (my mom and my new mom-in-law) and then wrote underneath each quote a personal 'thank you' to them.

I thought I would share the message that is on the inside of the cards with you in case you want to borrow the idea for your mom's mother's day card.
I figured I already stole other people's awesome quotes so why not share the idea with others!

Here is what I wrote:
Some quotes that remind us of our mothers:

I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me.
They have clung to me all my life.
~ Abraham Lincoln

If you have a mom, there is nowhere you are likely to go where a prayer has not already been.
~ Robert Brault
Thank you for your prayers.

A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie. ~ Tenneva Jordan
Thank you for your sacrifices.

The phrase "working mother" is redundant. ~ Jane Sellman
Thank you for all of your hard work.

A Mother’s love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.
~Marion C.
Thank you for your continual encouragement.

'Me' New Watch |

I got a new watch today called a 'Me' Watch!

I needed a watch for when I am taking photos at weddings (as staying on schedule is very imperative to the job!) I needed something durable & lightweight and that would get in my way while taking photos so I was looking for a rubber band watch. I had one when I was 10 years old and it was the ONLY watch I ever liked (I hate big heavy uncomfortable watches).

So at Zellers today I found the 'Me' watch. It is made out of Silicon which is a very green product and I got it in a cute coral colour (it comes in many colours). It is a very lightweight band watch and it kinda looks like a bracelet. It is also waterproof so great for the beach too!

Plus it was only $14.99 so I great price and since it is soft it shouldn't get damaged or scratched while I am taking photos.

Maybe I will start a new watch trend for photographers!

Easter Cookies |

I just finished making these Sugar Cookies to take home for Easter.

I love the fun colours and used 'Easter candy corn' for the flower petals and 'Easter m&ms' for the flower centres.

They look really cute, hopefully they taste yummy too!

DIY Pillow Covers |

I had purchased some pillows from Walmart when we first got out house. I thought they would match the colour scheme of the house, but once we got everything painted and decorated they really didn't match well! The style didn't compliment the design / feel of our living room either, and on top of all this the seems in the pillows were starting to fall apart!!

So I decide to 'up-cycle' and make pillow covers to put over top of the old pillows, using them as the 'pillow form' instead of buying new pillow forms.

I got the fabric at Fabricland and it was 40% off!! The colours of the stripes on the fabric match our wall colours perfectly. The yellow stripe is the exact colour of our living room walls, the brown ties in nicely with out couch colour and accents in the room, and the red stripe is the same colour as our dinning room (which is right across the hall).

The fabric is linen and so it goes a lot better with the casual / rustic / cozy style of our living room's decor!

I followed the tutorial below when making my 'Envelope' style pillow covers:

Here is what the old pillows looked like:

And here they are with the new pillow covers on them:
