DIY T-Shirt Scarf |

I came across an image of a t-shirt scarf on a friend of a friend's facebook page (amazing the places facebook can take you and you can't remember how or why you got there).

I LOVED the look of it so I looked up more images/tutorials on how to make them and found a number of different sites, images and tutorials for various styles of t-shirt scarves!

I went to a second hand shop and got a few t-shirts and even found some old Ts around the house and got to work on creating my own.


Above is how mine turned out - I used two colours of T-Shirts and followed the below tutorial (Not the best lighting/quality vid but it gets the point across).



Next I want to try to make one of the 10 styles that I found outlined on My Blessed Life they are ALL so beautiful will be hard to decide which one to try!

Shop Local...Online!

I think it is awesome to support local artists instead of buying from large main stream companies and chain stores. So I thought I would do a feature on a few cute local shops that I came across on Etsy. Shopping local is already close to home, and now it can be even closer by shopping local ONLINE, from the comfort of your home office / computer desk!

Here are a few of the neat local online shops I have come across |

London Ontario's Fancy Cuts - They sell adorable iron on appliques for baby's onesies, children's clothes and more! My favourite items are the iron on ties for on little boy's onesies and shirts.


London Ontario's Neck Candy Collars - A neat shop for pet owners who love to stylize their pets in hip and colourful collars. My favorites are the bow tie and flower collars!


Kitchener Ontario's Merrily - A shop that is everything Retro! I LOVE her 50's style aprons, they are very affordable and would be a great addition to a retro bridal shower gift.


Kitchener Ontario's Hawt Home -This shop has beautiful throw pillows in it that are made with funky and vibrant fabrics. They even do custom monograms and words such as 'love' and 'home' and even 'Mr. and Mrs.' pillows making them a great gift option for weddings!


Kitchener / Waterloo Ontario's Craftabulous - She sells some really unique items. My favourite are her 'Love Measures' earrings and pins. She uses various colours of seamstress measuring tapes to make these items, they would be so cute to give to friends who love to sew.


Hamilton Ontario's Adeline's Attic Vintage - This shop has amazing vintage pieces all organized by decade. A great shop for anyone who loves wearing vintage or who is needing costume pieces for an event or photo session.


St. Catharines Ontario's Bombshell Blooms - She creates gorgeous hair flowers that would be great for any occasion and I think would be especially nice for bridesmaids to wear!


My Online Local Shop - KO Two Designs - A shop full of handmade wedding creations.

My New Favourite Guest Books

I came across these awesome fingerprint guestbooks in Bleu de Toi's shop on Etsy

They are so unique and are a great interactive and personal way to get your guests to 'sign' your guest book.

They make beautiful custom pieces of art to hang in your home as well!

And there are many different styles that would suit multiple events, not just weddings.

Plus, let's be honest, these guests books also serve the very practical purpose of getting your guest's true identity up front in case one of them gets a little too rowdy and breaks a few things, you will be covered as you will already have their finger prints on hand! hehe

The Balloons and Bicycle style would be great for a birthday party guest book.

You could even then make prints of the original copy to share with family so that everyone had a copy.

Green With Envy...Over Emerald Earrings!

I am not usually the type of person to see a fashion item that I HAVE TO HAVE, but every time I see Kyle Richard's beautiful Emerald earrings on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills I just LOVE them!

She wears them with such grace and ease. I don't think I could pull off earrings of that size BUT I found a similar pair that are perfect for me in Designs by Jocelyn on Etsy.

This is the pair, I love the leaves and the wooden look to the gold surrounding the emeralds:

This pair of earrings is also a lot cheaper, at $28.00, than the Kyle Richard's pair that were made by Jennifer Miller. Her pair can be found HERE for $125.00 (A surprisingly low price!)

Hair Flares | I'm a "Featherhead"

I got my hair done today at Skintreet here in London by Annette, a great hairdresser.

The receptionist had a 'Hairfeather' in her hair, and so I asked about them and the more I heard about them the more I liked the idea of having one in my hair too.

They simply tie around a few strands of your hair and are held in with a small bead. They can be washed, dried, flat ironed, curled etc. AND they will last for up to 2 months!

When I got home I looked into them and here is the official Featherhead website.

And below is a promo video for the feathers along with a few pictures of how mine looks.

They also put 'Hair Tinsel' in a number of the girls hair while I was there and it is also a really nice look. It adds a little bit of subtle sparkle to your hair when the light catches it.

DIY Scrunch Belt |

I made this really cute 'scrunch belt' yesterday!

Somehow awhile ago I stumbled across a tutorial on youtube about how to make this type of belt.

It looked really simple and I just happened to be at Fabricland yesterday during a 50% off sale so I picked up the items needed (fabric, elastic band and a belt clasp). I got everything I needed to make the belt for around $5.00!!

It was so easy to make - I think I will make more to give as gifts and even to sell on Etsy! Might be a good project for up at the cottage on my summer holiday this year!

Helmet Head |

As the weather has been warming up I am getting excited about being able to bike on the awesome trails in the park, along the river and through the city!

However, I have been dreading having to wear a helmet, but I may have found an awesome solution to the classic case of Helmet Hatred!!!

I was just watching TV (The show 'Cash and Cari') and Cari was wearing the cutest helment ever!

So I did some 'research' online and found that the helmet manufacturer of the helmet she was wearing is a company called 'Yakkay' and there are two Toronto location that sell their helmets: Curbside Cycle and 4th Floor Distribution.

They are SO cute - but also carry a hefty price tag ranging from $160-$175. You can even purchase additional 'covers/style' to change the look of your helmet.

Pretty neat - but I was hoping to get a used bike for $50-$75 let alone paying double that for a helmet!!!

So it looks like I will still be wearing a dorky plastic helmet with a purple and pink flame pattern on it and an 'areo-dynamic' shape costing $20.00 from Walmart - for a little while longer at least - Maybe I can ask for a Yakkay helmet for a Birthday/Christmas gift??

Cookie Jar Wars | I Need your Vote!

I wanted a retro yellow cookie jar to match my decor in the kitchen. So I typed that into E-bay and it came up with a lot of great options!

Antique Bird Cage |

Yesterday I had to kill some time while waiting for a photo order so I went into 'Memory Lane' a large 'Antique Mall' in London ON.

I have been looking for an antique bird cage for some time (as I don't like the look of the large, moderns plastic ones) and surprisingly I came across a beautiful bird cage in 'Memory Lane'.

It is made by Songster a Canadian Company and it has been painted white. It is a hanging style cage and the base and stand are cast iron and are beautifully detailed with birds and trees.

It looks great in my office up against my plumb coloured walls. And a Canary would look awesome with its yellow colour in contrast to the purple.


Now I just have to decide if I want a Canary or a Finch. I like the colouring of Society Finches and Spice Finches. And it would be nice to have a pair so I didn't feel that they were lonley (as long as I could get a pair of males or females as I don't want to deal with baby birds). But I Love the song of the Canary (as I had one growing up) and the yellow colour would look awesome in the purple room.
